NIFTi Project – human-robot cooperation in search and rescue operations
The aim of the project is to develop robots able to cooperate with humans in search and rescue operations, thereby reducing risks to the human members of the team.
- NIFTi robots have worked together with rescue personnel in training situations reflecting real-life disasters involving tunnels, chemical spills and earthquakes.
- In 2012 they were used to help Italian firefighters assess damage to buildings following the earthquake in Emilia-Romagna, thereby avoiding unnecessary risks to human life.
- A 'Gaze Machine' has been developed which enables users to assess an area in three dimensions.
