On 8 December 2017, Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the EC, received Theresa May, British Prime Minister, in the EC. The EC recommended the European Council (Article 50) to conclude if sufficient progress was made in the first phase of the Article 50 negotiations with the United Kingdom, allowing the negotiations to proceed to their second phase.
