Visit of David Davis, British Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, to the EC
On 17 July 2017, Michel Barnier, Chief Negotiator and Head of the Taskforce of the EC for the Preparation and Conduct of the Negotiations with the United Kingdom under Article 50 of the TEU, received the visit of David Davis, British Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, in Brussels. Brexit is the popular term for the prospective withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union. In a referendum on 23 June 2016, 51.9% of the participating UK electorate (the turnout was 72.2% of the electorate) voted to leave the European Union. On 29 March 2017, the British government invoked Article 50 of the Treaty on the European Union. The United Kingdom is thus on course to leave the EU on 29 March 2019.
