Annual Report of the on the latest developments in the United Nations relating to combating trafficking
Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR), 2009, 21 pages
The report reviews the recent policy developments and activities within the United Nations system to combat trafficking in persons, including the activities of United Nations entities, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), as well as of the United Nations human rights mechanisms.
The Report finds that the partners in UN.GIFT have attempted to mobilise actions to counter human trafficking through the Vienna Forum and increased coordination of activities between United Nations entities. There have also been encouraging developments at the national, regional and international levels.
The report concludes it will not be possible to effectively counter human trafficking without shared commitments to human rights, human development and human security, and those human rights must be at the centre of any credible anti-trafficking strategy.
