The Dutch government established a National Rapporteur in 2000. The National Rapporteur on Trafficking in Human Beings and Sexual Violence against Children is an independent actor. The independent position is legally embedded.

The National Rapporteur’s main task is to report on the nature and extent of human trafficking (and sexual violence against children) in the Netherlands, and on the effects of government policy pursued. The reports contain information on relevant regulations and legislation, as well as information on prevention, criminal investigations, prosecution of perpetrators and victim support. The National Rapporteur collects and analyses statistical data from various stakeholders. Reports contain policy recommendations aimed at improving the fight against human trafficking.

De National Rapporteur reports to the Dutch government. All reports of the National Rapporteur are public. The government responds to the National Rapporteur’s recommendations in Parliament.
