EU Anti-Trafficking Day: Working together to stop trafficking in human beings

EU Anti-trafficking Day 2021

On 18 October 2021, we mark the 15th EU Anti-Trafficking Day. This day is an opportunity to raise awareness on trafficking in human beings. Its focus is to increase the exchange of information, knowledge, and best practices amongst different organisations and stakeholders, who join forces to protect victims and bring traffickers to justice.

Events on the EU Anti-Trafficking Day

In the morning (at 10:00 CET), Ylva Johansson, Commissioner for Home Affairs, will take part in a Twitter Spaces event hosted by DG HOME, together with

  • Diane Schmitt, EU Anti-Trafficking Coordinator
  • Ladislav Hamran, President of Eurojust
  • Ilias Chatzis, Chief, Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling Sector, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)
  • Stana Buchowska, Regional Coordinator for Eastern Europe and Central Asia at ECPAT International

Commissioner Johansson also published a blog post highlighting the importance of this day and the meaning that she attaches to the fight against trafficking in human beings.

The EU Anti-Trafficking Coordinator, Diane Schmitt, will participate in an event on the sexual exploitation of children and the role of civil society in the fight against trafficking in human beings, at the Stockholm Royal Palace, Sweden, in the presence of HM Queen Silvia.
