During the night of 21 September 2016, the Romanian border with the Republic of Moldova was the setting of a major Joint Customs Operation aimed at curbing cigarette smuggling.

For the first time, the Romanian, Moldovan and Ukrainian Heads of Customs, participated in the field checks, together with the Director-General of the European Anti-Fraud Office.

This unprecedented attendance at check-point Albita showed the support of the four partners to the customs officers that work day and night to protect the European Union’s Eastern border against trafficking.

  • OAFCN Press Seminar in cooperation with Belgian Customs and Excise (Brussels, 7 December 2016)

OLAF and Belgian customs organised a press conference on the European fight against customs fraud, with a focus on fighting the illicit traffic in counterfeits. The event was an opportunity for both organisations to present their joint work in curbing this cross-border phenomenon.

In May 2014, OLAF and the German Customs Investigations Office (Zollkriminalamt, ZKA) organised in the OAFCN framework a half-day seminar for German journalists on "Fighting fraud in Europe". The event, which took place at the EC Representation in Bonn, informed the participating journalists from national and regional media outlets about OLAF's and the ZKA's activities and presented several concrete examples of their good cooperation. The seminar was organised as a background briefing, which means that some parts were not intended for direct publication. However, several presentations were allowed for reporting, and there was a positive media coverage in the days following the event. Agenda

On 5 June 2012, the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) and Italy's Guardia di Finanza signed an Administrative Cooperation Arrangement.

The arrangement offers new and targeted means of international cooperation, intended to combat the most recent and dangerous types of fraud.

The prize for the section "Communicating Europe" was awarded to G. Pittella (Vice-President of the European Parliament ) and it was dedicated to the memory of F.H. Bruener former OLAF Director General.
