On 14 July 2011, the European Commission launched a debate on the future of promotion and information schemes for EU agricultural products (See IP/11/885 ). With the publication of a Green Paper on these issues, the Commission is looking to stimulate debate on how to shape a more targeted and more ambitious strategy for the future, which will make clearer to consumers – both in the EU and beyond - the quality, traditions and added-value of European agricultural and food products. The deadline for contributions was initially the 30 September 2011. However, following the request by a number of organisations for further time to consult their members, the Commission has prolonged the deadline until close of business on Friday October 7, so that interested parties can have their say and participate in the public consultation.
