A Commission report on the Short-Term Outlook for EU arable crops, dairy and meat markets in 2016 and 2017 has been published today.
EU pigmeat exports are expected to reach a record levl of 2.7 million tonnes thanks to an increase in exports to China. Pigmeat prices are expected to follow a similar trend.
Prices for dairy products in Europe have also seen an increase in recent weeks, which could be reflected in prices paid to producers. The duration of the recovery in the dairy sector remains uncertain, however. This is why the Commission launched an EU Milk Production Reduction Scheme worth EUR 150 million, which has seen a strong take-up from farmers.
Cereals and oilseeds are facing the unusual situation of a bumper crop worldwide, but a poor harvest in the EU, especially for wheat and maize.
