European School Milk Scheme

This European Union (EU) wide scheme, first established in 1977, provided schoolchildren with drinking milk and other milk products to encourage consumption of healthy dairy products containing important vitamins and minerals. It was implemented until 31 July 2017. A new school fruit, vegetables and milk scheme under a single legal framework applies from 1 August 2017 for greater efficiency, more focused support and an enhanced educational dimension

In its last school year, 2016/2017, the EU school milk scheme reached around 18 million children in the 28 EU countries. The EU budget contributed with EUR 60,9 million while EUR 54 million came from national public or private funds. Statistics are available here.
