A questionnaire on the conservation, characterisation, collection, and use of genetic resources in agriculture had been sent to experts and organisations acting at Union level and being represented in Advisory Groups of DG Agriculture and Rural Development as well as the Committee on Genetic Resources (farmers' and breeders’ organisations, environmental NGOs, consumer groups, organisations dealing with seeds, food and, feed, national administrations, international organisations, and coordinators of genetic resources projects).
This consultation was carried out in the context of the ongoing evaluation of the Community Programme on the Conservation of Genetic Resources based on Council Regulation (EC) No 870/2004. Accordingly, emphasis is on the technical aspects and the EU dimension of the programme.
The stakeholders' consultation was launched on 25 November 2011 and closed on 27 January 2012.
In total, 42 out of 190 organisations, invited to participate in this consultation, submitted their contributions via the Interactive Policy Making (IPM) tool. The contributions will be analysed carefully and a summary will be published on this Website.
We wish to thank all those who devoted to spend time in filling the questionnaire: their opinions, suggestions and views will contribute to a better understanding of difficulties, needs and expectations on the conservation of genetic resources for food and agriculture and will help the Commission to meet stakeholders' expectations in making new proposals on this topic.
