Consultations

The European Commission consults citizens and other stakeholders on all major policy initiatives.

Opening up policy making can help the European Union (EU) to become more transparent, accountable, and effective.

How to contribute to law-making

Public consultations

Public online consultations are systematically part of the consultation strategy for:

  • initiatives subject to impact assessments
  • initiatives subject to evaluation and fitness checks
  • Green Papers (policy discussion documents)

These consultations are open for a period of 12 weeks.

Stakeholder feedback

Following the new better regulation package, stakeholders and the public at large will also be able to give feedback even earlier in the policy-making process:

  • on roadmaps and inception impact assessments
  • on legislative proposals (for eight weeks after their adoption)
  • on draft delegated acts and important implementing acts (for a 4-week period)

Feedback mechanism

Civil Dialogue Groups

Civil dialogue groups assist the Commission and help to hold a regular dialogue on all matters relating to the Common Agricultural Policy, including rural development, and its implementation.

The groups are composed of at least European-level non-governmental organisations, including representative associations, socio-economic interest groups, civil society organisations and trade unions.
