High Level Meeting on milk between high level representatives of the Member States and the Agricultural Markets Task Force (16 September 2016)

The end of the milk quota system in 2015 has created a new context for economic operators. It coincided with a significant world market imbalance in the wake of the Russian import ban and less dynamic world demand growth.

Having witnessed historically high prices by the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014, the milk sector entered a phase of market turbulences that lasted throughout 2015 and the first half of 2016.

In its conclusions of 14 March 2016 on the market situation and proposed measures, the Council Presidency urged the Commission to "convene, in a High Level format, Member States' representatives to meet with the Agricultural Markets Task Force (AMTF) to consider structural issues in the dairy sector and put forward appropriate recommendations".

This meeting is co-chaired by the Slovak Presidency and the European Commission's Director General for Agriculture and Rural Development.

To focus discussions and allow for conclusions to emerge from the meeting, a short questionnaire was circulated prior to the meeting.
