Youth on the Move has come to Volos, Greece
Zumba, capoeira and hip hop! The sun is shining in Volos, where spring has finally arrived. Youth on the Move has set up a big tent in the port and is hosting a range of performances, presentations and workshops. But the event is not all about fun and games. Volos has, like all of Greece, been hit hard by the financial crisis and youth unemployment is high. So it is no surprise that a crowd is gathered at the tent – several schools have visited with their pupils to learn more about etwinning and other ways they can collaborate with schools across Europe, students from the nearby university drop by to find out how to apply for the Erasmus programme and curious by-passers pick up leaflets about volunteering, citizenship, active ageing and many other topics.
The presentation on entrepreneurship attracted a mixed crowd, including both students and people who have been working for several years. “There are no vacancies”, says one of them, “so I am thinking about staring my own company instead. Maybe a café or a restaurant. But it is difficult in the beginning.” At the presentation they learnt about Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs which offers an opportunity to spend time with an experienced entrepreneur abroad, which helps the new entrepreneur acquire courage, inspiration and skills needed to run a small firm.
Youth on the Move will be in Volos 18 – 20 April – come and visit us in the port next to the statue of liberty!
