Friday, February 17 The European Commission's Youth on the Move road-show arrived today at the International Education Fair in Nicosia, Cyprus. Androulla Vassiliou, the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, inaugurated the Fair together with the Cypriot Education minister Giorgios Demosthenous and Youth on the Move ambassador Karolina Palendritou and opened the Youth on the Move event. During three days Cypriot youngsters discuss results of projects funded by EU grants and individual experiences from studying, volunteering or working abroad as a part of the Erasmus, Leonardo and Youth in Action Programmes. In 2012/13, only Erasmus and Leonardo da Vinci, the main two EU support programmes for youth mobility, will fund 400 000 study opportunities and 280 000 work placements. Androulla Vassiliou said: "The Youth on the Move campaign is a great opportunity for young people to find out how our programmes can help increase their skills, development and employability. In times of high youth unemployment, our schemes can help young people to get their first step on the career ladder and contribute to addressing the skills mismatch that exists in many countries." More than 10 000 people from Cyprus, Greece and neighbouring countries are expected to visit the three-day Education Fair.

18-19 February The Youth on the Move event in Nicosia continued throughout the weekend, with thousands of visitors of the Nicosia Education Fair attracted by the rich programme joined in at the Youth on the Move stand. Discussions, presentations, conferences and perfomances, showcasing projects financed through Comenius, Leonardo da Vinci, Erasmus and Youth in Action, climaxed on Sunday in a joyful celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Erasmus programme. The Youth on the Move event had been opened on Friday by Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou, the Cypriot Education Minister Giorgios Denmosthenous and the Cypriot Youth on the Move ambassador Karolina Palendritou.
