Together in silence
Project “With camera and object-glass over the little known places in Bulgaria” was initiated by a group of young deaf youngsters and their hearing friends which created the informal group of "Together in silence”.
Due to the specifics of their disability, people with impaired hearing searched alternative forms to increase their ability to access information, increase their knowledge and awareness.
Project “With camera and object-glass over the little known places in Bulgaria” was a possibility for young people with impaired hearing to show within the European Year of innovation and creativity that they can express themselves through the media of photography.
The aim of the project was to increase knowledge and awareness of young people with impaired hearing in the field of geographical, historical and cultural heritage known and lesser-known places in Bulgaria. For young people with impaired hearing, this project was an opportunity to express themselves through the integration and equality in society.
The project was undertaken in pre-travel itinerary, prepared by the youth across Bulgaria. For six days the young people travelled about 2000 kilometres. They have made more than 1000 pictures in which they sealed the beauty of Bulgaria. Some of these pictures were presented in a photo exhibition. The young people also made a film in which they explained through sign-language the geographical, historical and cultural heritage of Bulgaria. The informative reference book was prepared with pictures of the visited places and brief information in Bulgarian and English. This initiative enables many of their peers to learn about little known places and geographical richness of history and culture of their homeland.
