Seafearers Then and Now 5

Seafearers Then and Now 5 is a multilateral itinerant youth exchange project with 35 young people from 8 different countries (Finland, France, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom). It is the successful continuation of previous youth exchange adventures that began in 2004.
Since 2004, young people from different countries have sailed the seas connecting different cultures, languages and customs. The focus of this year's Seafearers Then and Now 5 is on the North Sea.  The activities during the exchange are divided between sea and land.

In ports, young people concentrate on activities with a historical and cultural bent while promoting the Youth in Action Programme. In addition to these activities, they visit institutions with a nautical theme, such as maritime museums, shipyards and navy schools. During their days at sea, participants sail the vessel together with the permanent crew. They are divided over the various watches and are responsible for all aspects of sailing the vessel: sail handling, navigation, cooking and cleaning. The watches are manned by young people from different countries in order to maximise the exchange of cultural values. During this exchange participants take pictures of the activities and life onboard and in each harbour they try to bring the press on board to keep them in contact with the theme of the Youth in Action Programme.
