At the start of this youth initiative project there was no provision for young people in the local area of Tullaghan, County Leitrim in Ireland.The young people formed a club and decided to take part in a project that enabled them to work with other segments of the community towards a common goal of producing a large mobile piece of art entitled ‘The Community Clock’ that represented all elements and groups within the local community.

In a time of fear of terrorism and Islamophobia this multicultural exchange funded under the Youth in Action Programme promoted a feeling of understanding and emphasised our similarities as human beings which affected not only the young people but continued to have ripples into the wider community, thereby proving the ideal of unity in diversity.

Full House is a youth filmmaking and international exchange project funded by the Youth in Action Programme, which has involved 45 young people from Bristol (Great Britain), Hannover(Germany) and Posnan (Poland). The UK premiere will take place on Saturday 21st November 2009 at Cinema De Lux, Cabot Circus.

The ZOEY Foundation for Arts and Culture just finished their first Youth Democracy Project granted under the Action 1.3 of the Youth in Action Programme. The project aimed at making youngsters growing up in the outskirts of Lisbon and Utrecht more aware of democratic processes. Katerina and Kostana led this project, called ‘Under Construction’. The Glacensis Association from the town Kudowa-Zdrój in Poland invited 17 performers of classical music, namely classical singing, coming from different European countries to their town. During several days in September within the project of Activity 4.3 young people together with their professors participated in the European Music Week. They met there to gain knowledge, develop talents, exchange experiences, but also to compare their skills with the ones of their foreign counterparts.

A European Voluntary Service (EVS, Action 2) project coordinated by the Austrian organisation Akzente Salzburg has taken place in Austria from May to July 2008, in the framework of the Euro2008 football championships. The project (www.eurovol.at) involved 81 volunteers from 14 countries, and also made joint activities with another project, a Youth Exchange (Action 1.1) taking place in Youth centers in Vienna. Representative the European Commission have visited the project and met the young participants to discuss the experience together.
