Health and Well-Being

What is the EU's Role?

The EU's strategy for encouraging young people to live healthy life styles comprises measures to promote mental and physical health (including sexual health), as well as the prevention and treatment of injury, eating disorders, addictions, and substance abuse. In particular, the focus is on:

  • physical education, education on nutrition, and promoting physical activity to encourage fitness and healthy lifestyles;
  • promoting collaboration between schools, youth workers, health professionals, and sport organisations;
  • making existing health facilities more accessible and attractive to young people;
  • raising awareness of how sport can promote teamwork, intercultural learning, and responsibility.
How is this being done?

Specifically, the Youth Health Initiative seeks to involve young people more closely in EU health policies.
