Switzerland is joining the "Youth in Action" family

As of 1 January 2011 Swiss young people will be able to fully exploit the various opportunities offered by the "Youth in Action" programme; vice versa, in the future young EU citizens might participate in all projects carried out in Switzerland under this programme.
On the basis of a bilateral agreement signed mid-February in Brussels between the European Union and the Swiss Confederation, Switzerland is indeed becoming a new member of the "Youth in Action" family which unifies now: •    31 programme countries (27 EU member states plus, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway, Turkey), •    23 neighbouring partner countries (from South Eastern Europe, Eastern Europe and Caucasus and the Mediterranean) and •    118 other partner countries from all over the world. Switzerland will have the same obligations as the other 31 programme countries and will provide a financial contribution of 5,4 million euros for the period 2011-2013. Androulla Vassilliou, EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, and cosignatory of the agreement (which also includes the Lifelong Learning Programme), called it "a very important accord with Switzerland".
