On 10 May 2010 sixty young leaders from EU and Chinese youth organisations, met in Shanghai for the first EU-China Youth Leaders Summit, organised by the European Commission, the European Youth Forum and the All-China Youth Federation.
The participants adopted a
Joint Statement including proposals for the
2011 EU-China Year of Youth, which shall aim at: • enhancing the
mutual understanding and
friendship between the young people of EU and China; • encouraging young people to actively engage and support the development of
EU-China relations; • raising EU-China
people-to-people contacts to a new level and promote its sustainable development. At the conference many participants stressed that young people can play an important role in deepening dialogue and building better relations between the EU and China. 2011 was designated as the EU-China Year of Youth at the 12th EU-China summit held in Nanjing on 30 November 2009.
