The thematic focus of the conference hosted by the Lithuanian EU presidency from 9-12 September 2013 was on the social inclusion of young people, particularly those not in employment, education or training (NEETs)
European Commissioner, Androulla Vassiliou, responsible for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, addressed the opening session of the EU Youth Conference in Vilnius. The conference gathered young people and policy makers from the 28 Member States of the European Union for discussions, which, as an integral part of the Structured Dialogue with young people and youth organisations, allow young people to help shape EU policies which affect them.
Commissioner Vassiliou reported on the review of the EU's Structured Dialogue with young people. The objective of the Lithuanian Presidency EU Youth Conference was to agree joint conclusions on the basis of the compiled results of national consultations of young people conducted in all Member States prior to the Conference. These joint conclusions may now be reflected in policy documents to be progressed through the EU Council of Youth Ministers.
