The Orthodox Charity Centre "Eleos" has existed since 1996. Centre was created to facilitate delivery of charitable aid to all in need.
The most important purposes of our organisation are: - help individuals and families in a difficult financial situation; - help children from poor, broken and socially insecure families and orphanages; - help senior citizens, handicapped and ill people; - resist negative social phenomena; - help emigrants and refugees. The "Eleos" realize that purposes by: - Clubs for children from poor, broken and socially insecure families - children coming to club after school lessons and do homework, have fun and sociotherapist with specialist; organisation for children summer and winter holiday rest; - Immediate Help Centre - organise soups for the poor and homeless during the autumn-winter period; hand out second-hand clothes for the needy, food, purchase medicines; - Alcoholic Help Centre - psychologist help for people with alcoholic problem and their families; Apart from the regular staff there is a number of volunteers who are the basic human resources of the Centre. On average there are around 50 volunteers who assist the workers on regular basis. They work in clubs for children, Immediate Help Centre, Alcoholic Help Centre; they try organising actions for fundraising, help children in doing their homework, play with them, prepare meals for the homeless, collect clothes etc. Volunteer will work in club for children in Bialystok. Since September children start coming to club after lessons. They do homework and have every day some activities (sociotherapist, sport, art, ecological etc.). Next to club is playground where children can to play. We do for them dinner (they can also eat before dinner, because we have kitchen in club). We cooperate with another clubs in Bialystok and Supraœl and together organise occasional parties. During winter and summer holidays we organise for our children camps. We organize also fundraising actions (selling Christmas candles, making and selling postcards etc.). In Bialystok live 300 000 inhibitors. Bialystok is the capital of Podlaskie province. It is a great administrative, academic and cultural centre. In Bialystok are four cinemas, three theaters. We have good medical care. There are two nature reservations and large territory of communal forests and parks within its boundaries. About 50 000 students study in Bialystok. Located in the distance of 50 km to the Bellarussian border, the city is the place where several routes and railway lines cross. |
Tasks |
Orthodox Charity Centre would like has international volunteers, because it is big oportunity to meet another country's culture. Volunteers motivate children to change they selfs and to seek new oportunities of their live. We had before few international volunteers (that were very good projects), therefore we would like to widen pur cooperation with international volunteers. Volunteer's tasks: - children care; - help for children in doing homework; - help in organize activities for children (sport, theatre, art activities etc); - preparing occasional parties for children (St. Andrew's Day, Christmas party, Child's Day etc); - help in organize trips for children; - children care during camps (winter and summer); - help in organize games and activities during camps; In every volunteer's tasks will hepl staff and local volunteers. Volunteer will work five day in week per 5 hours every day. His/her work start since 14.00 to 19.00 (because then children are in club). Volunteer will have polish lessons two times in week per two hours. He/she will have thirty days holidays. The host organisation will rent a flat in the city of Bia³ystok where the volunteer will live together with other volunteers or students. He/she has a single room (with using of bathroom and kitchen). The language course will be organised by the host organisation. |
