Motivation and EVS experience

The Asociación Juvenil Escuela Educar para la Paz (Youth Organisation School to Educate for Peace) works in the fields of values education and international cooperation through training workshops and events (awareness and cooperation with the Saharan people, training about the relations N-S, conflict solving, etc.). For this reason, we think that participating in the EVS means enriching our work and complementing our projects with international experiences, as well as improving our training and, thus, our service to the community.
We are currently creating an EVS project with an organisation from Slovenia (Slovenska filantropij, working for refugees and with the promotion of volunteering). A staff member from our organisation will participate as volunteer in the Slovenian organisation and then apply what she learns in our organisation. Therefore, we need to be a sending organisation and, later, we can take a step further and apply as a host organisation.
We also think it is important to be a sending organisation, as in Extremadura, there is only one, for the moment (ASERMUN). This way we can offer youth in our community the chance of carrying out European projects through their region and we can promote the European view and be a model for other organisations.

Description of the organisation

Main aims of the organisation: attend personal and social development of people, provide them with tools and resources which convert them in independent, autonomous and free people, being so participants and actors of the different interventions. Cultural promotion (individual and collective); integration of groups in situation of exclusion or in difficulties; promotion of such values as respect and tolerance; awareness and conservation of the environment; need to know and act with the so called Southern Countries; attend children and youth; raise awareness about Saharan situation, etc.
To manage them, we have created a comprehensive programme, CIPE (Centro Interdisciplinar Permanente de La Escuela, Permanent Interdisciplinary Centre of the School), which has an important social impact.
In the frame of this comprehensive programme, we carry out cultural activities (theatre, scenic arts, development of local culture, cultural traditions,...); activities to support collectives with special integration needs (such as people with mental handicaps, women, immigrants, youth from the rural environment,...); activities related with the environment; activities to support international cooperation.
This frame is structured around several axis, some of them continuous, and some of them punctual, related among them, and all of them with the aim of developing promotion of equal opportunities, development of tolerance attitudes and skills, respect, integration, active and participative learning, as well as the promotion of our regional culture and learning about other cultural realities (Sahara, Portugal, Brazil, Argentina,...); and the promotion of intercultural cooperation as a sample of sustainable development in our global society.
Our target group: women (women's associations), youth (group of youth for a free Sahara; interventions in secondary schools and spaces for the creation of youth of Extremadura), children (schools, Summer and Spring schools), teachers (teacher's and resource's centres of Extremadura), parents (school of parents of Extremadura), people with disabilities (group "Different Multitudes: work with scenic arts and weekly radio programme), as well as cooperation and coordination with other local and national organisations related with our fields.
We currently have 3 full-time employees: 2 pedagogues and a social educator. We also count with the participation of volunteers in our events and workshops, and we hire professionals of other fields for special events (theatre, video,... technicians, musicians, experts in different subjects,...
