Where is the European Youth Week taking place?

The European Youth Week will take place throughout Europe: there will be the "Youth takes the floor" conference in Brussels, and a number of events happening in each country at the same time.

Who can participate in the EYW?

Everyone between 15 and 25 can participate, e.g. in the activities organised in each of the countries.

Who organises the European Youth Week?

The conference in Brussels is organised by the European Commission, DG Education and Culture, Youth unit.

The national events are organised by the National Agencies of the YOUTH Programme, the Eurodesks, National Youth Councils and National Authorities.

When did the first EYW take place?

This will be the second European Youth Week.
The first edition took place in Brussels 29.09 - 5.10 2003.

What happened during the EYW 2003?

The “Youth in Action” 2003 Youth Week included round table debates between European officials, experts and youngsters; an audition in the European Parliament; an exhibition of youth projects and an award for the best European projects.

What is happening in Brussels?

Apart from the national events in each member state, a central 3-day international conference will take place in Brussels, with workshops and debates between young people and high level EU representatives (from the European Parliament, Commission and other EU institutions).

What is the European Youth Programme?

The YOUTH programme is the EU’s mobility and non-formal education programme targeting young people aged between 15 and 25 years. It is open to young people in 31 European countries and partner countries. It offers opportunities of participation in the form of group exchanges, individual voluntary work and support activities.

What is the Youth Pact?

The so-called ‘Youth Pact’ has been launched by the European Council to promote better opportunities for young people.
It includes the three main strands:

  1. employment, integration and social advancement;
  2. education, training and mobility;
  3. reconciliation of family life and working life.

What do you mean by European Youth Policies?

Starting with the 2001 White Paper ‘A new impetus for European youth’, the European Commission for the first time established a framework for youth policy.

It is aimed at strengthening European cooperation in the field of youth policy.

The main objective is to improve young people’s active citizenship with the help of the open method of co-ordination (OMC) and also adding a youth dimension to other policies.

A very important step in this context has been the adoption of the European Youth Pact in 2005.

What is Eurodesk?

Eurodesk is a European network of information services in 27 countries providing a unique access to Europe-related information for young people and those who work with them.

The Eurodesk network receives ongoing support from the European Commission through the Commission's YOUTH programme, which is operated by the Directorate General for Education and Culture.

What is the European Youth Forum?

The European Youth Forum is an international organisation established by national youth councils and international non-governmental youth organisations to represent the interests of young people from all over Europe. It is the youth platform in Europe representing youth organisations in international institutions - mainly the European Union, the Council of Europe and the United Nations.

It serves to channel the flow of information and opinions between young people and decision-makers. The European Youth Forum has 93 members made up of national youth councils and international non-governmental youth organisations, which are federations in themselves, bringing together tens of millions of young people from all European countries.

Who selects the winners of the European Youth Award?

In a first step, the National Agencies of the Youth programme selected the best projects on a national level. Out of these, a jury of young people will then decide on the final nominees and the winners.

The final results will be published on this web site and on the European Youth Portal where the consultation was launched.

The analysis of the consultation will be presented during the ‘Youth takes the floor’ conference in Brussels.
