Objective of Agreement To establish a global process for developing technical regulations and to achieve high levels of safety, environmental protection, energy efficiency, and anti-theft performance for wheeled vehicles.
Remarks The Agreement was adopted by the Inland Transport Committee of the Economic Commisssion for Europe of the United Nations at its one-hundred-and fifteenth Session, held from 23 to 26 June 1998. The Agreement introduces a system for listing global technical regulations of this kind in a global compendium and creates an institutional framework for cooperation between the parties. It revised the previous Agreement concerning the adoption of uniform technical prescriptions for wheeled vehicles, equipment and parts which can be fitted and/or be used on wheeled vehicles and the conditions for reciprocal recognition of approvals granted on the basis of these prescriptions (Geneva, 20/03/1958).
