For those seeking information about business opportunities within the EU there is now free access to the database TED - Tenders Electronic Daily. The tenders are for the purchase of goods and services by public sector bodies across the European Union the European Economic Area and beyond. This information is also available in CD-ROM format from these outlets.

EC external aid is given by means of either contracts to provide services, supplies or works to beneficiary countries or grants (generally for projects proposed by non-profit making organisations). Tenders for these contracts are administered by the EuropeAid and published on EuropeAid Website(which has a ' quick search' facility that enables one to see all tender opportunities and calls for proposals published during the last 10 calendar days).

The European Commission has established a network of Euro Info Centresthroughout the EU to provide information to businesses. They can offer a tailored service to business clients looking for tender opportunities within the EU and in third countries.

Pre-information Notice: Europe Direct Information Centres in the UK

There will soon be a new call for proposals to select organisations eligible for an action grant for hosting public information centres known collectively as the “Europe Direct Information Network”, for the period starting in 2013

The Europe Direct Information Centres are operated by organisations selected through calls for proposals and managed by the Commission Representations at national level. There is a wide variety of host organisations ranging from national, local and regional administrations to NGOs and local libraries.

In 2012, European Commission Representations will organise calls for proposals in all Member States to select organisations for hosting the third generation of Europe Direct Information Centres from 2013 onwards.

The overall aim will remain that all citizens, from both rural and urban areas, may have easy access to information about the EU through a geographically balanced network of centres.

Final details of the new Call are still awaited but you may note that the value for each of the grants from the European Commission during the last Call was between €12,000 and €25,000 per year.

The date of publication of the call for proposals is expected between May and July 2012.

Since grants constitute expenditure charged to the European Union's budget, they may not be awarded until a basic act has been adopted and are subject to approval of the budget by the budgetary authority. This announcement, on the foreseen call for proposals, is published ahead of the procedure and creates no obligation towards the European Commission.
