Lancaster House in Central London will today buzz with the sound of sixth-form students from around England debating EU issues. At the EU Mock Council in England, an annual event hosted by the European Commission, British Council and Foreign and Commonwealth Office, students take on the role of an EU country, or the Commission of Secretariat-General of the Council in a simulation of the EU Council of Ministers, one of the EU's decision-making bodies. This year the students will be trying to find common agreement on stimulating economic growth and the Arab Spring.

Jonathan Scheele, Head of the European Commission Representation in the UK, will chair the working session on economic growth. He said "There are many misunderstandings in the UK on how Europe works and today's event provides an invaluable experience for youngsters to experience first hand and "from the inside" the way the EU takes decisions."
