The EU Transport Commissioner, Siim Kallas, challenged the industry to come up with a single journey planner that would allow customers to book online one ticket for journeys across all EU countries and all modes of transport. Although there are currently more than 100 planners, no such comprehensive option exists.

A single European journey planner – how to get there

The challenge for a truly European journey planner is open to everyone, from companies and organisations to anyone with an interest in travelling. The public will be able to vote on the journey planners that have been submitted and are already up and running, while a professional jury will evaluate ideas for a new multimodal planner.

The deadline for applications is 9 September 2011. From 15 October to 15 November 2011 all operational planners that have been submitted and preselected will be put to a public vote on the website of the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport.

More detail about the competition and information about the existing planners can be found at eujourneyplanner.eu
