Ombudsman opens public consultation on Commission's late payments

The European Ombudsman, Nikiforos Diamandouros, has launched a public consultation on late payments. Individuals, companies, NGOs, associations and all interested parties are invited to submit contributions by 31 March 2010 in any of the 23 official languages of the European Union.

    Ombudsman opens public consultation on Commission's late payments

    Since 1995 the Ombudsman has conducted 63 investigations concerning these problems. In the Ombudsman's view, during the past few years the Commission has made progress in this front. He welcomed recent initiatives to reduce payment delays such as simpler procedures, stricter time limits and the increased use of lump sum payments. However he feels further improvements could be envisaged.
