The European Commission is keen to recruit more Britons with language skills. The Commission's translation service (DGT) joined forces with the EU's staff selection service (EPSO) at the Language Recruitment Fair in London to highlight the career opportunities available to linguists within the European Commission. Staff were on hand to brief visitors to its stand on the wide variety of careers available to graduates with a second EU language.

Moreover, the Commission is facing a pending shortage of English translators and interpreters and is looking to recruit high-calibre linguists with English as their mother tongue to plug the growing deficit.
