The European Opera Centre has now been operational for 15 years and is designated a cultural ambassador of the European Union.  The Centre retains its original aims of helping talented young Europeans to move through education to employment in opera; and also to help develop audiences for opera itself. Early in its life, the Centre instigated an animated version of Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen which was taken up by BBC Television and voted the best music film made for television at the Golden Prague Awards.  The Centre has recruited, trained and recorded entirely separate casts of young singers to make the film available in seven European languages. This exhibition presents some of the original images from this film which has now been seen by several million people around the world.  These are presented alongside photographs capturing the Centre’s latest project with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra – Britten’s The Beggar’s Opera.  The performances in Britten’s centenary year of one of his least well-known stage works took place at the Epstein Theatre, Liverpool – the Centre’s home city.
