14-30 November 2012

A showcase of artworks by recent graduates of the Art Academy of Latvia, who have completed their studies over the past three years. The show witnesses the development of young artists, of talents nurtured, shaped and swept along the currents of our changing times, of new styles emerging and flourishing. In the exhibition, the works of the young art graduates stand side by side with the paintings of two of their professors, also alumni of the Art Academy of Latvia and true masters in their own right, who have been mentoring and guiding the new talents throughout their study years. Although representing different generations, in the exhibition all alumni stand on equal footing, each with their own distinct style and artistic voice.

    Graduation

The diverse array of works on display highlights the young artists’ search for the new and quest for the true in art. New forms of artistic expression are being explored, traditional techniques are being replaced and re-defined, old assumptions are being questioned and reinterpreted. Artists venture beyond boundaries and seek new platforms for creativity. The artworks on show invite the audience to embark on a journey to explore fine contemporary painting – from masterful depiction of the human figure, landscape and urban environment to an exciting venture into abstract expression.

“GRADUATION” features artworks by the following alumni of the Art Academy of Latvia: Rector Aleksejs Naumovs, Vice-Rector Kristaps Zariņš, Elīna Alka, Sanda Skujiņa, Kristīne Urbanaviča, Adriana Vīgnere, Zane Veldre, Neonilla Medvedeva, Anna Afanasjeva, Kristīne Luīze Avotiņa, Laura Vecmane, Sanda Undzēna and Ieva Bondare.
