JTI (Gallahers) closure in Ballymena: EU Anti-Smoking Legislation (TPD2) and Support for Redundant Workers (EGF)

This week, on 7th October, Japan Tobacco International (JTI) announced their plans to close the Gallahers tobacco factory in Ballymena, Co. Antrim with the loss of approx. 900 jobs by May 2016. In a statement, JTI said it was restructuring  its manufacturing facilities in Europe as a result of ‘significant and sustained changes impacting its global business’.
