The vision of the RISER project is to develop a knowledge base that can provide better roadside design tools and strategies. Current resources are unable to answer all the questions on suitable roadside safety design requirements.

The specific objectives of the project are to provide a technical foundation upon which roadside safety guidelines can be developed. These objectives are a series of accident databases focusing on roadside design and a set of guidance documents to assist road safety stakeholders in applying and assessing safe road designs.
