The future European Directive on road infrastructure safety management provides for the mandatory auditing of new and existing road networks to be undertaken by certificate-holding professionals. This requirement can be expected to generate a surge in the demand for safety audit training courses, above all in countries where audits of the road network remain the exception, despite significant European Union funds being allocated to new road infrastructure construction projects.
The European Road Safety Auditing Training Syllabus addresses this knowledge gap by proposing a pan-European syllabus of training modules which auditors must be exposed to in order to carry out their assignment effectively. On the basis of these generic modules, national training courses tailored to specific legislation and engineering practices can then be developed at the discretion and under the supervision of national road authorities.
