Objectives

The main objectives of the ECBOS project are to make suggestions for improvements to current ECE regulations and to propose new standards for the development of safer buses and coaches. The major community added value is a decrease in the frequency and severity of occupant injuries and the social suffering which occurs as a result of bus and coach accidents.

Main achievements

Statistical accident data were analysed to investigate the relationship between the types of accidents occurring on the roads and the current test methods. Information from well-documented real world accidents was taken to create a database containing both vehicle and occupant data.By means of component tests and different lab tests the data for the validation of the numerical models were gained. These baseline models were then taken for further simulations. Cost benefit analyses will investigate the correlation between additional expense and reduced injury risk.
