The key result of the study will be proposals for the future direction of roadworthiness enforcement in the European Union. For the short to medium term, proposals will be made for extending the current directives and other developments within the existing regimes. For the longer term, a future direction will be proposed that takes account of likely developments in vehicle, diagnostic and communication technologies, the current situation in the member states, the views of other stakeholders and the feasibility of change.
Implementation of the recommendations of the report is expected to enhance the enforcement of vehicle roadworthiness.
