We want to increase our employees' knowledge of defensive driving by offering "Road Safety Days". These will be yearly weekend events with education for all company employees. During the weekends, our drivers will be trained in safe driving with our TSU truck simulator, and the office personnel will be trained how to communicate better with the chauffeurs to avoid disturbing them while giving them instructions. Selandia will instruct our drivers how to stack the carriages safely and Scania will provide a course on energy and correct and safe driving. This action will be carried out over three years (2006-2009) and will include collaboration with TSU, Selandia, Scania Danmark, TU, and DTL.
Many accidents in Denmark are caused when trucks turn right, and we want to make cyclists aware of these dangers. We will therefore produce and attach a warning sticker for all our vehicles so that the cyclists can see the point up to which the drivers can see them in their mirrors. Over 300 stickers will be placed on HPT vehicles and close to 15,000 will be produced and sold to other companies. This action will be carried out over three years (2006-2009) and will include collaboration with the HPT road safety department and Signhouse.dk.
We want to educate children at local schools about the dangers of trucks on the road. With one of our trucks, we will show the children how to behave safely when they are near a truck. The children are shown what the driver can see in the mirrors of the truck and are explained where to place themselves so as to stay at a safe distance from the vehicle. In the autumn of 2006, we will also supply all local school children (900) with reflective safety vests. This action will be carried out over three years (2006-2009) and will include collaboration with the HPT road safety department, the local schools and the local police.
Surveys show that a healthy and fit driver has better reaction times than a driver living on fast-food and without exercising. Therefore, we will inform drivers about the benefits of healthy food and exercise to increase concentration and safer driving. This will be done through a project called “Green Menu Day” (once a year from 2006-2009) where meals are given out to all our drivers, teaching them to eat healthily and how to take exercise during daily breaks. We also distribute recipe books to our drivers (Dagens Rat) that teach them how to make healthy and fast food during their journeys. There is also reliable information regarding the exercises that drivers should do to stay alert during the journey on our information system. Also, a 50% discount at fitness centres is provided for our drivers to help them keep in shape.
