Behavior
We can all contribute very effectively to safe roads. If everybody buckled up in accordance with the law, respected applicable speed limits and did not drive under the influence of alcohol, we could save an estimated number of more than 12.000 lives per year on European roads. This does not cost a lot, but the savings are obviously enormous.
To improve behaviour, there are four major initiatives in which the European Commission is involved:
- Regulating the conditions for issuing Drivers Licenses
- Co-operating, co-ordinating and co-funding European campaigns for road safety
- Training and education, through legislative work (link to Directive) and projects
- Enforcing existing traffic rules
