Background
-
About 40.000 people are killed in road accidents on European roads every year.
-
The total costs for road accidents are estimated at over 160 billion a year in the European Union.
-
It is estimated that excessive blood alcohol concentration is involved in 1 out of 4 accidents
and better drink-driving management could prevent up to 10.000 fatalities in the EU annually.
Objectives of the Seminar
The Seminar aimed at facilitating the exchange of best practices at local and national level amongst
European road safety experts, Social Aspect Organizations, retailing and catering sectors, restaurant and bar sectors,
youth organizations, driving schools, politicians, etc.
The overall objective was to contributing to the process which will lead to a significant reduction in the
number of people killed or injured on the European roads.
