The Road Safety Quick Indicator has been operational since 1988, aiming to provide very recent trends on basic road accident indicators (number of injury accidents, persons killed and injured) based on provisional data in order to assist decision-makers in comparing their current national situation with other Member States.
In view of providing recent trends, the system is based on the collection of monthly provisional data (before final control and correction) which are compared with provisional data of the previous year.
Due to the diverging national definitions, data are not comparable from country to country. The main interest of the Quick Indicator is to show the trends - month by month or on a longer period - within a given country.
Comparisons with final data show that Quick Indicator trends based on provisional data are very similar to the equivalent trends based on definitive data published.
