Public consultation on the "Rights of passengers in international bus and coach transport"

The public consultation on the basis of Commission Staff Working Paper “Rights of passengers in international bus and coach transport” was launched in July 2005 and has now been closed. As announced the Commission publishes summary report on the results of public consultation together with all contributions received from Member States and other stakeholders, except where confidentiality was specifically requested.

The European Commission received a total of 57 contributions, of which 14 from the governments of Member States, 12 from European organisations, 20 from national organisations, 9 from companies and 2 from other contributors.

Based on the comments received the Commission will formulate its detailed policy on the rights of bus and coach passengers.  The possible adoption of a legislative proposal by the European Commission is scheduled in the Legislative Work Programme for the fourth quarter of 2006.

Stakeholders’ meeting:
On the 29th March 2006 in Brussels the European Commission held a stakeholders’ meeting concerning the results of public consultation on the rights of international bus and coach passengers.
