A  'Special Eurobarometer' (No. 176)  on consumers' opinions on services of general interest was carried out in the autumn of 2002, and contained similar questions as the 'Special Eurobarometer No. 139 (see below), which addressed the quality of rail transport. The report was published in December 2002, and can be found on the Commission's website with all the Eurobarometer reports and special reports

In 2001, the Commission requested a study to assess the actual and the potential market for international rail passenger services: 'Developing EU (International Rail Passenger Transport: Assessment of the actual and potential market for international rail passenger services, by OGM, Brussels, February 2002', Report and Annexes.
