A comprehensive overview of the legal framework and the decisions concerning state aids is given on the State Aids webpages of DG TREN.

Legal Framework

Decisions and Notifications

Below, a list is given of Commission decisions on state aids granted by the Member States to the railway sector, and which have been notified or examined by the Commission. This list is a selection of the list of cases published on the website of the Commission's Secretariat-General. These decisions are only published in the official language(s) of the Member State involved. Reports

The Commission's Directorate-General for Competition publishes a twice-yearly State Aid scoreboard.  The full report, as well as previous reports, show that the transport sector accounts for a significant amount of Euros state aid granted in the European Union. The aids granted to the railway sector are almost exclusively provided to the railway network for infrastructure investments and public service contracts and obligations in passenger transport.
