Notified Bodies

Both Directive 96/48/EC on the Interoperability of the trans-European high-speed rail system and Directive 2001/16/EC on the Interoperability of the trans-European conventional rail system require the Member States to "notify to the Commission and the other Member States the bodies responsible for carrying out the procedure for the assessment of conformity or suitability for use ... and the verification procedure... indicating each body's area of responsibility".

The Commission publishes and updates the list of bodies, their identification numbers and area of responsibility. The notification procedure and the publication is managed by Directorate General Enterprise and Industry.
