Commission releases over €1.2 billion to fund key TEN-T projects

The European Commission has launched two Calls for Proposals under the 2012 Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) multi-annual and annual programmes, making €1.265 billion available to finance European transport infrastructure projects in all transport modes – air, rail, road, and maritime/inland waterways – plus logistics and intelligent transport systems, and all EU Member States.

New portal on Trans-European Network with dynamic maps

The European Commission launched a public portal allowing citizens and businesses to access up to date information on the advancement of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) through satellite-based dynamic maps, facts, figures and various audio-visual and interactive elements. In practice, it will allow users to see the live development of the TEN-T network in the region of their interest.

Commission helping to deploy 112 eCall for emergency services

The European Commission has adopted a measure to ensure that by 2015 your car can call emergency services for you in case of a crash. The Commission wants the life-saving eCall system to be fitted to all new models of cars and light vehicles from 2015. eCall automatically dials Europe's single emergency number 112 in the event of a serious accident and communicates the vehicle's location to the emergency services.

European Commission announces winners of sustainable mobility funding

Within the framework of its Sustainable Urban Mobility campaign, the European Commission today announced the 20 winning actions set to receive up to EUR 7000 each in financial support. I am delighted to see so many of you here in Brussels today. Thank you for accepting my invitation to attend what I expect to be a very useful and productive forum for debate and cooperation.

These are not the easiest of times for Europe's economy. That will be already clear to all of you here today since you operate at the ‘sharp end’ of business.

It is also clear to everyone that Europe’s main task at the moment is to revitalise its economy, create employment and attract revenues as well as investments.

One of the founding principles of the European Union was to create a space for free and fair economic activity, without barriers or bureaucracy. But this enduring vision has not yet become a full reality. That is holding us back in our efforts to revive economic growth. We need to ask why.
