The event was organized by the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE). It facilitated the debate around the theme of Short Sea Shipping (SSS) promotion policies, instruments and the environment, at EU and US level with more than 60 participants representing public and private stakeholders of the European SSS sector: national focal points for SSS and MoS representing the maritime administrations of the EU Member States, European Economic Area (EEA) and Candidate Countries, as well as representatives of the Shortsea Promotion Centres (SPCs) and MIF (Marine Industries Forum). The U.S. Maritime Administration delegation took part in the meeting in the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation for Short Sea Shipping promotion and facilitation signed on 1 July 2011 between the Maritime Administration of the United States of America and DG MOVE.
