International aviation: Sri Lanka

On 27 September 2012, the EU and the Government of Sri Lanka signed a Horizontal Aviation Agreement which restores legal certainty to the bilateral air services agreements between Sri Lanka and EU Member States. The Horizontal Agreement entered into force on 15 July 2013.

The agreement removes nationality restrictions in the bilateral air services agreements between EU and Member States and Sri Lanka and therefore allows any EU airline to operate flights between Sri Lanka and any EU Member State where it is established and where a bilateral agreement with Sri Lanka exists and traffic rights are available.
