International aviation: Nepal

On 23 January 2009, the EU and the Government of Nepal signed a Horizontal Aviation agreement which will restore legal certainty to the bilateral air services agreements between Nepal and EU Member States. The Horizontal Agreement entered into force on 25 June 2015.

The agreement removes nationality restrictions in the bilateral air services agreements between EU Member States and Nepal and thereby allows any EU airline to operate flights between Nepal and any EU Member State where it is established and where a bilateral agreement with Nepal exists and traffic rights are available.

The agreement is an important step towards further strengthening of the EU-Nepal aviation relations and will encourage traffic between the EU and Nepal.
